Micromeritics have long published technical newsletters called
"MicroReports" that update customers
on products, technology and company news. These are
available as PDF downloads from their web site and
this link brings you

Micromeritics moved factories in Norcross
Atlanta 2008 to a new 140,000 square foot
facility that will allow them to expand production and
facilities for customers. Part of the new facility is a much
enlarged Applications Lab with 10 benches of instrumentation and
multiple instruments to handle the heaviest work loads. the MAL
is a contract facility and undertakes material characterisation
analyses for many companies. |
Physisorption and BET surface area systemsMicromeritics are the world's largest supplier of physical gas adsorption instruments used to estimate surface area by BET or for mesopore and Micropore distribution analyses and Isotherm studies. Systems range widely from the manual flowing gas Flowsorb through Gemini, Tristar and the high specification ASAP 2020 analyser and the workhorse 2400. Micromeritics hold patents on their technologies; including Isothermal jackets to ensure even temperature on the sample tubes during long analyses. They are also working hard at support, with even the smaller things that make life in the busy lab easier; like the newly released software utility to calculate BET and reports in Excel spreadsheets....Physi ViewCalc, download for free if you click to follow the links. The current Physi-sorption instrument line up now includes: |

- Flowsorb III entry level SSA manual analysers with classic lowing gas designs and TC detectors.
- The very successful Gemini has been updated to match the new look Tristar with a new series VII and the Gemini models 2390a, 2390p and 2390t
- The Tristar II model is for busier labs. The Tristar II 3020 has a small footprint and more features (photo) than the long running 3000 installed in many Pharma labs in Ireland. Key changes are in software especially new user diagnostics to troubleshoot installations and a Krypton version for low SSA and longer tubes/Dewar for isotherms.
- ASAP 2020, the high specification BET with options for Micropore & full multigas analysis.
- New Vapour adsorption kit for water or solvents facilitates volumetric studies of water activity or the effects of solvents on Isotherms or SSA (Link to this topic).
- ASAP 2420, the heavy duty system with 12 degas and 6 analysis ports for simultaneous analysis.
- ASAP 2050 is the latest physisorption instrument and dedicated to high pressures (10 atmos.) for Hydride and pressure swing analyses.
Density and volume measurements ( Pycnometry)The Accupyc 1330 was the benchmark Helium Pycnometer worldwide because of its extremely high precision, its ease of use and its reliability. With helium gas displacement you can measure the true skeletal volume of materials. Recently the 1340 version was released to avail of current technologies and now one controller can operate up to 5 analytical chambers. Also there is Windows software operation and with RS232, Ethernet and USB ports the 1340 models are easily interfaced. There are also temperature controlled and a Glove Box variants. The GeoPyc 1360 is a unique instrument for the assessment of overall volume or density, the "envelope" values. One very useful application of Pycnometry is to combine the Accupyc with the GeoPyc and calculate porosity...without use of a Hg Porosimeter.. There is a report of this on the Micromeritics web site, click for details. |

- Accupyc 1340, the latest helium pycnometer in 1, 10, 100 and 350 cm3 chambers.
- Foampyc, a special version pycnometer for measuring the percentage of open cell volume in blocks of foam.
- GeoPyc 1360 offers users the ability to measure the envelope volumes of products and the T.A.P. density of powders.
Chemi-sorption systemsMicromeritics instruments are
specifically designed for the highly aggressive environment
present during chemisorption analysis. Internal components are
constructed of highest-quality stainless steel to prevent
reactivity with most commonly used chemisorptives. Heated
manifolds, gas lines, and detectors are provided to allow
analysis with condensable vapours. Sample preparation occurs in
situ to prevent contamination prior to analysis. Samples can be
prepared at high temperatures (up to 1100 deg C) and at low
pressures (<10 -5 mmHg). |

- Chemisorb 2720 & 2750 flowing gas systems; ideal introductory manual Chemisorption analysers at affordable costs.
- Autochem 2920 TPD/TPR/TPO; the complete catalyst characterisation system with temperature programmed desorption, reduction, oxidation and pulse chemisorption
- Autochem 2950 HR is a special system for 1000 psi experiments. The system facilitates high pressure TPR to emulate a commercial activation of a supported metal catalyst Fuel cell applications that require reforming hydrocarbon feeds to hydrogen Hydrogen storage applications using mixed metal hydrides that change hydrogen capacity as temperature changes - the user can vary hydrogen pressure to determine storage capacity as a function of pressure.
- ASAP 2020 Chemi system (shown above right) is the flexible high end multi gas solution for those needing to characterise surface reactivity and maintain Isotherm or BET capability as well.
- Microstar quadrapole MS is purpose designed Residual Gas Analyser for direct connection to any Autochem system or after the ASAP 2020 chemi system.

Elzone II particle countersMicromeritics acquired Elzone technology some years ago and have now released a complete instrument based on the Electrozone principle for particle sizing and counting in conductive liquids. Elzone II accepts tubes and glassware from old Elzone units and some Coulter units. It is completely automatic in operation and has many unique features. |

Particulate Systems & Special EngineeringMicromeritics launched a new range of products early in 2009 that fulfil niche requirements to our material characterisation customers and are OEM products. These are all available direct from Micromeritics, more details available from the Particulate Systems web pages. Micromeritics also offer Custom Engineering for special needs and applications. Typical requests are for special data reduction and reporting software, enhanced detection sensitivity, the ability to accommodate samples of unusual shapes and sizes, and the capability to withstand corrosive materials or safely accommodate hazardous ones. Occasionally, however, we are challenged with designing and building a one-of-a-kind apparatus for performing uncommon analyses or analyses required by an emerging technology. Particularly in the latter case, some of these designs have become standard products for MicromeriticsThe MA-1040 Magnetic Analyzer detects and measures low levels of metallic iron content in sample materials. Whether it be ultra high-purity glass used in the manufacture of fiber optics or plastic used to produce insulation for electrical wires, knowing the concentration of metallic iron in the raw material is critical to controlling the quality of the finished product.Particle Insight is a state-of-the art dynamic image analyzer which is ideal for applications where the shape of raw materials, not just the diameter, is critical to raw materials. The Particle Insight offers up to 28 different shape parameters analyzed and reported real-time for samples in either aqueous or organic solvent suspensions. |
