Spinvettes
Cusop Technology Inc.
has designed a simple accessory for cleaning up samples prior to size
analysis in the nanometre regions.
This is an optical
quality cuvette (the Spinvette) that directly fits into the cell
compartment of your DLS instrument and yet can be "spun down" in a micro
centrifuge to sediment coarse material. The disposable Spinvette cell is
fitted into a specific adaptor in your DLS instrument.
Adaptors are available
for Nano ZS and S90m systems and most other major DLS instruments.
| Dynamic Light
Scattering (DLS) technology is ideal for measuring the sizes of
nanoparticulates in suspension. But there is a disadvantage that
goes with nano sensitivity - small amounts of aggregates or
"dirt" are readily seen in the intensity distributions and bias
the statistics and results with their coarse numbers. |

The Spinvette with
say microlitres of
sample can be centrifuged at forces up to 48,000G and the cuvette
then read directly in your DLS without filtration or pipetting - with marked improvement
in results.
