Zetasizer Automatic Plate Sampler
(APS) from Malvern has been introduced for screening of protein
samples by DLS.
The APS works with 96 or 384 plates and a 20uL sample and return
system, 2 temperature zones (Plate and measurement cell) and
easy to use software.

The
ASAP 2020 HD from
Micromeritics provides new low
pressure desorption capabilities. Low pressure desorption
analysis are beneficial for materials that exhibit adsorbed
phase changes during desorption. Metal organic frameworks and
small pore zeolites often exhibit low pressure hysteresis during
desorption. The new low pressure desorption analysis provides
more resolution for these materials that “breathe”. HD also
improves accuracy and extends pressures down by an order of
magnitude. HD stands for High Definition.

Quartz Crystal Microbalance
(QCM) technology has been around for a while and is widely used
if limited in some of what it can do. Unlike all other
QCMs,
QCM-D monitors the response of
the freely oscillating crystal, which is faster and more
accurate than the usual frequency sweep principle. By measuring
several frequencies and the dissipation it becomes possible to
determine whether the adsorbed film is rigid or water-rich
(soft), which is not possible by looking only at the
frequency response. This technology is only available from
Q Sense, who as part of
Biolin Scientific
is now available from Particular Sciences.

Spinvette is an innovative
accessory from Cusop Technology
and a practical solution to an age old problem...how to measure
small particles in a sample when there is some aggregated
material present. Spinvette is an optical quality cuvette that
directly fits into the cell compartment of your DLS instrument
and yet can be "spun down" in a micro centrifuge to sediment
contamination.

High Concentration Zeta Potential
cells are now available from stock to allow chemists to
measure Zeta potentials in concentrated suspensions (above 5%
solids).
These fit all Malvern Zetasizer Nano
zeta systems and are available in addition to the disposable
cuvettes and the cell for organic solvent use.

products on the market for biochemists testing the concentration
of precious DNA samples and to ratio the purity with proteins.
We recently saw an innovative system that makes the measurement
INSIDE the tip of the micro-pipette. So with as little as 2uL of
sample you can get an answer in seconds and return the sample to

Zetasizer uV from Malvern was introduced as a batch DLS
instrument for testing small quantities of proteins. The
Zetasizer uV SEC has now been
released in a package with flow cell, tubing, Omniface box and
SEC software to be used for Molecular Weight measurents on line,
as an SLS detector with SEC systems.

The Tristar BET
analyser from Micromeritics is the workhorse standard in many
busy Pharmachem labs where reproducibility, reliability and
confidence in the results are at a premium. Now Micromeritics
have released an improved Tristar
with Krypton capability to measure surface areas below
0.1m2/gm. This is
more than a skin deep change, the Tristar is fitted with higher
vacuum pumps and more sensitive transducers to avail of the
lower Po Krypton has and of course software to calculate BET
with Krypton. |
